Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) drives economic success, yet the poorest and most socially disadvantaged Jamaican children avoid or perform poorly in the sciences. Their communities show little appreciation for STEM and under-resourced schools are ill-equipped for constructive, engaging science teaching. Help us to correct this stifling inequity by exciting children with science and igniting them to apply reasoning and analytical skills to resolve everyday challenges. https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/sosa-uplift-jamaican-schoolchildren-through-science/

Teachers receive ongoing training from staff and government education programs, all funded by the Alliance. Village education councils also receive training on how to ensure teachers are paid and students—especially girls—are in school. Education has only been available to children in these 11 rural villages since the Alliance’s involvement in 1986. 1,500 students are now going to school, an opportunity most of their parents never had. Students continue to progress each year.

You may also donate directly to the Health Training project in Mali, West Africa. This project provides health training to village families in the rural areas of Ouelessebougou, Mali. Health education and disease prevention are key to enhancing the quality of life. "Villagers do not have access to clean water or electricity. Many women spend six hours each day collecting water, firewood, and crushing millet for meals. Many children die from simple causes such as diarrhea, measles, and pneumonia and do not live past their fifth birthday." Please click the link to find out how you can help!
